"THE BRIERY"

The Briery is a classic Georgian landmark building. Built from Bluestone quarried on the property around 1852 by the Scotsman Robert Herbertson, the property remained in the family and has only changed hands once.

The present owner has spent four years totally renovating this stunning, north-facing building back to and beyond its former glory, adding vibrantly coloured and ornately decorated period features. Comprising two living areas, four bedrooms, two bathrooms and spacious concave rear verandah, ‘The Briery’ sits on 26 acres of land, 21 of which are restored ‘private wetlands’ under permanent conservation covenant with Trust for Nature Vic. Over 4000 trees and ground cover plants have been planted on the property in the past 5 years. The Trust offer financial assistance from their ‘Stewardship Programme’ for the maintenance of the wetlands.

The focal point of the wetlands is a 7 m. high stainless steel dome shaped framework structure with a wooden platform. In good rainfall seasons the wetlands are home to many varieties of birdlife and frogs and take on the appearance of a lake.

Rezoning has been applied for in relation to the 5 acre house block so prospective buyers may be able to obtain an additional title. The property is only two minutes from Portland CBD and beaches, five minutes from Cape Nelson and 10 minutes from beautiful Bridgewater Bay.
