In this small series I’m looking at how the simple curved line employed by the architects of Santorini got the difficult balance between man’s habitat and nature dead right. I believe they simply followed the ‘curves of nature (see Metamorphosis – Red Version & ‘Fissure – Oia’ ) where there are ‘no straight lines’ – unfortunately the designs of some of the more modern buildings in Santorini are falling into the economic trappings of the ‘square’ - to me these buildings lack the ‘intrigue’ and aesthetic balance of their curved neighbours.
